2002 – Sharon Coming to Know Jesus as her Saviour

In the previous testimony, I shared about my coming back to God after 16 years of backsliding. It was an amazing time, but what was just as amazing, was the fact that unbeknown to me, my mother had taken my ex-girlfriend Sharon to the church, where she gave her heart to Jesus. She had a powerful conversion experience and as she always explains, it was like hot water being poured all over her with a sense of cleansing and newness. That day she encountered God, and she has never been the same since.

At this stage, I was back with Jesus leaving the drinking and partying behind. I didn’t know Sharon was saved and she didn’t know that I was saved. But little did we know, that one of God’s major plans were now in full swing, as he brought us back together. I can always remember the beginning of this coming back together as a couple. We were in the same church service with her sitting at the front and me mulling around at the back. When the service finished, she began to walk through the crowd with a friend and I couldn’t see a way to avoid her.

I thought that our encounter would be a little nod of acknowledgment, but instead, she put her arms around me tight and told me that she loved me. I said nothing, I was stunned but after a few moments, I told her that I loved her too. She said to me, just to give her some time, to which I had no option but to agree. In truth, I just wanted to get back together but what I couldn’t see, was that God needed this time with her, to settle her into this new life with him. But, for however impatient I was, I could see that I needed the same and that maybe a time of seeking God as individuals was a good thing. And that’s when the encounters with God began.
