(John 4:23-24) “…..Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshippers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for they are the kind of worshippers the Father seeks.God is spirit, and his worshippers must worship in spirit and in truth….”

It’s clear throughout God’s Word that his children coming together and singing praises to his name is something which is deeply pleasing to him and when we enter into a true life with Jesus Christ, an inbuilt desire will exist to worship him and that desire can become a real reality, when we sing praises to his name. All too often though, we associate the word worship with this act of praise alone however, the true meaning of worship, is far more wide reaching than you might think so it’s important we make this definition clear, to gain a full understanding of the true meaning of Christian worship.
.
Throughout the Old and New Testament scriptures, the word worship means to adore, reverence and respect the Lord which encompasses

far more of our lives than singing alone. To worship the Lord is to respect the Lord in every area of our lives as we live and grow in our relationship with him because there’s a simple truth, Jesus wants so much to be a full part of our being and in every aspect of our lives. It’s here where the true worship begins to shine through as we walk out our daily walk with God so for example, the Lord calls us to obey Kings and Rulers in this life, not because we adore them or reverence them but because of our respect and adoration towards the Lord and his Word. We are also called to submit to our worldly bosses/managers in the workplace and again we do this, as an act of reverence and respect because we know this is the Lord’s desire for his children. Us husbands are called to love our wives as we love ourselves regarding their feelings and needs above our own and sometimes this can be difficult however, we do so because we agree with the teachings of Jesus and believe his truth out of a respect for him.

.
In these three brief examples above, we see what it truly means to worship the Lord simply in Spirit and in truth by it’s true definition, to adore, reverence and respect him as our great and glorious God so for those who struggle a little in worshipping him in praise, you might just find that you worship the Lord Jesus more than you know.
