Encouragements

Over the months, I’ve I shared about some of the Christian men and women who have impacted me over the years as an encouragement to our readers to consider doing the same, as I’m sure we all have those special people who God has used to help shape our lives.  The individuals in question this evening is an Evangelist called Dave Brett, his wife Darlene and Len Desipio who preached the Gospel in Elgin in 1985 and although it was a long time ago, I can remember as clear as day, the impact they had on me as a nine year old.
.
Dave, his wife Darlene and Len Desipio were here in Elgin labouring in outreach as well as preaching the Gospel through our Baptist Church and

although I’d been going there for some time as part of my family, one particular night changed my life forever. That evening, Dave preached the Word of God and it had such an impact me that evening, that I came to a place personally where I knew I needed to accept Jesus as my Saviour.  I believed in Jesus even at the age of nine but that night I knew I had to go forward and make a commitment. I can always remember going forward shaking like a leaf but knowing I needed to go and when I gave my heart to Christ that night, I went into a tremendous shaking and afterward, the sense of peace was just amazing.

.
It was an amazing night for me and you can imagine how happy my family were but one things still stands out for me the most, even till this day.  It was the character of Jesus which I could see so clearly in Dave and Co, they were just such a loving, caring and understanding group of individuals and that’s not to say the Christians I knew weren’t, it was just something extremely special about the way these individuals spoke and acted.  Listening to the Word that night, I not only heard God’s Word but saw it preached with a tremendous peace and passion and it was that I think which captivated me the most, giving me the courage to step forward and make my own commitment.
.
Since that day, I’ve had a Christian life like most with a lot of good times and a lot of hard times but that night still shines through as something very special and I’m so grateful to Dave, Len and Darlene for their labours here in Elgin during those months.  Dave and Len have gone on to be with the Lord after travelling all over the world and at present, I’m trying to contact Darlene Brett and Len’s wife to say hello and pass on my thanks for their labours so I hope I can contact them.
.
I’ll continue to post articles like this over the months with the encouragement that a reader might do the same, to remember those individuals in whom God used to impact your life and bring you forward or through the situations and I guarantee you, you’ll see God working so clearly.
.
God bless
Steven
