How much can we get to know Jesus in this lifetime?
.
This is a great question and it deserves as full an answer as possible because it’s so important that we understand these kind of principles clearly, so that we might indeed know him more.  Knowing Jesus Christ and God the Father is without question the chief call and importance of our Christian lives and not only just to know him, but to experience a true, maturing, intimate relationship with our God.  The scriptures agree with the words of Jesus, with Peter and with Paul, that this call is the absolute foundation, as well as the peak, of our purpose in the Christian life and in light of that, we need to understand fully the principles.
.
So let me explain as briefly but as fully as I can the main principles of knowing him so that we can have a clear answer to the question, how much can we get to know Jesus in this lifetime………
.
God has far more of a desire to fellowship with us, than we’ll ever have with him (John 3:16) – This is an important and amazing fact when you actually take some time to think about it but it’s one which is totally true from what we know about God and read in the scriptures. Each time mankind falls, disobeys, lets him down, walks away from him and ignores his advice, God is always the one who makes the first move to restore fellowship with the creation he loves.  When Adam and Eve fell, God made the first ever animal sacrifice to cover their sin, when the children of Israel fell away from God, God gave them the tabernacle to restore fellowship with them and then the ultimate, he sent his own son to die on a cross to make a sacrifice once and for all, so people could come to him through Christ’s blood.  It is absolutely amazing when you think about it and when I look at it, I think why on earth does God love us and keep putting up with us, I try hard personally but I’m not perfect and many times I’ve asked the question, why do you love me?  But the answer is clear and simple, because I’m his.
.
We might want to know him but he already knows us (Psalm 139) – This is something we tend to so easily forget when we’re in prayer, worship or even just thinking about things which are affecting us.  It almost makes me laugh at the amount of times I’ve spoke in prayer forgetting that God knows absolutely everything about me, my past, my future and my present thoughts and challenges. Forgetting that he has a plan for my life and that nothing I’ve done or about to do is any great surprise to him, in fact, he’s already factored those mistakes into my personal plan. Again it’s just a truly amazing fact and when you actually stop, just for a few minutes, and consider this as truth, that God has a plan for each one of us and he’s not surprised by anything.
.
We’ll always be limited in this lifetime – There’s no question about it though, we will be limited in this time and I can think of no better, encouraging example to illustrate this than the life of Paul the Apostle.  There’s no doubt that there’s been few Christians which have existed that had prayed as much as Paul, worshipped, suffered, sacrificed, been beaten, jailed, persecuted and saw as great a visions and revelations than Paul however, in the book of Philippians, he remarked that he still didn’t have it all figured out yet. I find this to be such an amazing encouragement when I look at my own relationship with Jesus and it makes me feel like the pressure is off.  We just couldn’t fully comprehend God in this lifetime, not his greatness, not his full love and compassion towards us or even to look at his face, he’s just too great and magnificent.
.
So, I hope your encouraged by the fact that God is always the one desiring fellowship with us so don’t ever forget that in worship, in prayer and even when you’re studying, he wants to be with you and spend time with you. Remember too that you might be seeking after him but take a look at who you’re chasing, your chasing your Lord, Saviour and best friend, one who knows more about you that you know about yourself.  No one knows you like he does and no one knows your future like he does so don’t worry, he’s got it all figured out.  But take the advice from Paul the Apostle, we’ll never fully know him in this lifetime but we can look forward to the day when we can meet him face to face and know him fully for who he is.
.
I hope this answer has done this question justice or at least given you some principles to go on because it’s so important to the quality of our Christian lives.  God bless…..
