Easy Bible Guide Part 9

.

Jewish History and Customs – The majority of this particular subject is contained within God’s Word from the beginning in Genesis right the way through to end time prophecy in the Book of Revelations, so its important we have a basic overview, of at least of the history and customs of the Children of Israel. The main reason for this is, is because the entire Old Testament has it’s focus on the Nation of Israel and God’s dealings with them and as we enter into the Gospels and the Epistles in the New Testament, we find many references, questions and explanations of spiritual revelation based within Jewish history and customs. This is one of the main reasons why it can take some time to become accustomed to the scriptures, especially in the western world as these aspects are quite foreign to us and at times difficult to understand. Over the months and years though, an individual’s knowledge in this area will naturally grow as they read his Word and seek Him for understanding, unlocking many areas and events in scripture.
.
Roman History and Customs – This subject is far less vast, in that much of the scripture references to the Romans take place within the Gospels, centring around Jesus earthly ministry as the Romans were indeed the invaders and occupiers of Israel keeping law, order and collecting taxes at that time. In the Gospels, they especially come to the forefront in carrying out the crucifixion of our Lord Jesus Christ and when you learn their customs, even just in the area of crucifixion, you learn in a deeper way just what they put Christ through as he died for our sins. In the years to come, the Romans also played a role in a great persecution of the Christian Church and later, adopted Christianity as their religion, so having a basic overview of the Romans is essential to a deeper view of the events in God’s Word.
.
The History of Christianity – One of the great aspects of the Jewish and Roman history, is that the knowledge we require is contained and explained within God’s Word and we can have complete assurance as to their accuracy however, the following history out with the canon of scripture, can be conflicting and from many sources. That being said there are many very credible instances of Christianity throughout the past 2000 years including the Gospel spreading to Europe, the Reformation, King James and the church in the new Americas, which were well documented and encouraging to read. These accounts, with the guidance of the Spirit, can build up a tremendous understanding of the history of the church throughout the ages and just like God’s Word, there have been joyful times and very dark times as God’s plan has played out in history. One of the great aspects of this history and indeed in modern history, is that it continues to reinforce and confirm God’s Word and plan for mankind and for that reason alone, it’s well worth having a basic overview.
