Easy Bible Guide Part 11

.

We’re now beginning to come to the closing articles of our Easy Bible Guide and I hope you enjoyed the articles so far and have found them simple and clear. The next two articles we’ll touch on now are without doubt, the most important aspects of correctly interpreting God’s Word, as they are the two major keys to un-locking the scriptures and therefore the mind of God. The latter, is the whole point of why we have composed these articles, so that you might know God more as your Father, Saviour and best friend and find the true revelation of God’s Word.
.
When Jesus came to the end of his earthly ministry he spoke much of the Holy Spirit, saying that he would come in his place, to not walk as flesh and blood but dwell in the hearts of all believers. He said the Holy Spirit would come to guide us as Christians into the truth of God and God’s Word by comforting us when we needed reassurance, to guide us when we needed direction and to help us pray and learn before the Lord, fulfilling Christ’s promise to neither leave us or forsake us. Today, the Lord God our Father and our saviour Jesus Christ, eternally dwell within the hearts of believer through the Holy Spirit, so that God may live his life through his children to build up the church and reach a lost and broken world.
.
As a Christian, being aware of the Holy Spirit in our own lives is something which simply takes time to understand and experience to be fully taught. It’s not something we can merely learn about as head-knowledge, as it would be like you having never tasted an apple asking me what it tastes like, I could explain but you’d never have a true reality of it in your life so, the best way I could to teach of the Holy Spirit, is to give you some solid principles to know and understand, so you can experience him for yourself.
.
1.  He is God – The Holy Spirit is indeed the third member of the Godhead and is in himself fully God, so as always we should think, act and speak respectfully as if we would in prayer to the Lord, however as our comforter he expects no recognition or praise in his role as his main purpose in the believer’s life is to reveal the glory of the Father and the Son.
.
2.  He would never contradict – As God, the Holy Spirit would never contradict the will, plans or Word of the Father or Son in any area or any point, giving us the reassurance that no matter what we see, however spectacular, we’ll know whether it be a work of the Lord.
.
3.  He would never force – As the Holy Spirit dwells within us, he carries out his commission remaining united with God to never force, manipulate, lie or humiliate the one he dwells within rather, he works to establish, strengthen and settle a Christian in all knowledge and truth.
.
These are the three main aspects of the Holy Spirit as a starting point for you to be impressed upon correctly by the Lord and in the right way, so how will you recognise him. Well the Word of God tells us that ‘bitterness and strife descends not from above but is earthly (worldly wisdom), sensual (of the flesh) and devilish (from the enemy)’  but that ‘the wisdom that is from above, is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, easy to be entreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality and without hypocrisy. (James 3:14-17). These verses give us the plumb line into which we judge all revelation as the Holy Spirit would not for a moment conflict with this Word from the Lord. That’s not to say we might not receive some pointed revelation toward ourselves at times but if we do, it would be pure, peaceable etc as only the Holy Spirit can be.
.
So how will he speak to you? There are many ways in which the Holy Spirit speaks to an individual and the way he speaks tends to be very personal to the Christian in question, remember, God knows his children better than anyone and you as a Christian are completely unique in that no one has ever been like you and there will never be one like you again. So it’s a deeply personal aspect of our Christian walk and hearing his voice comes with nothing else but practice and God will speak to us by impressing deep thoughts into our hearts, he may speak directly through scripture giving you wisdom at just the right time, he may choose to speak to you by the words of a trusted friend, family member or Pastor, you might receive a vision or a dream or, you may hear a still, small voice in your heart encouraging at the moment of need.
.
This aspect of scripture interpretation is extremely important and a vital aspect to our spiritual health as an individual, as there is no other way of travelling deeper into a walk with the Lord without the guiding hand of the Holy Spirit however, this is his function in the life of a Christian in this age and he wants nothing more, than to reveal the Father and the son to a Christian regardless of their colour, creed or educational background. It takes time but if a Christian seeks the Lord with all their heart, the Holy Spirit will meet right where they are and he never disappoints.
