This article is part of our ‘Questions Answered’ series – One example of many to help us with the challenge.
.
An unsaved friend challenged me one day by asking me how could I believe in God, if I didn’t understand the whole of the Bible. How can I respond to this question?
.
It’s a really good question which I’m sure many Christians have been challenged with before. It’s a great opportunity for us when we get the chance and as long as we keep our mindset very much in the arena of love, we could have a great result.  It gives us the opportunity to employ a little Godly wisdom as well as allowing the Spirit of God to lead us and as God’s Word teaches, he’ll give us the wisdom in the hour we need it. Our hope in these kind of situations should always be to use the proper influence of God’s Spirit because quite simply, our fleshly minds tend think there’s an A or B response to a question but with God, there tends to be a C, D and an even an E to consider.  So, I hope the below gives you an idea of what I mean as well as a suggestion of an answer………
.
“How can you believe in God when you don’t know all of the bible?”
You – “Do you drive a car?”
“Yes I do”
You – “Then tell me where the crank shaft in the engine was made”
“I don’t know, what’s a crank shaft?”
You – “You mean you drive around in a ton’s worth of car and you don’t know what that engine part does or where it was made?”
“No I don’t know, but I just get in and drive because I know how to do that”
You – “So your confident about driving even though you don’t know where all the parts we’re made or what they do?”
“Yes”
You – “Well it’s the same with the Word of God, I’ll never know it all in my lifetime, but I know enough to believe in Jesus”
.
The conversation might not unfold exactly like the above but I hope you see the idea.  Our job is never just to ‘prove a person wrong’ and walk away victorious, we’re there to be led by God’s Spirit to encourage another to think about what they believe by using an answer which gives them nowhere to go. They might not see it at first but that seed will have been planted enough to make them think and it’s a seed which the Holy Spirit will use to try and reach a person through your actions. I hope the above has answered the question.
