Easy Bible Guide Part 6

Pastor Steven Birnie

.

There have always been those who preach extreme, incorrect or even false teachings ever since the dawn of the early church and no doubt these teachers will be around for many years to come yet much of the teachings are simply incorrect due to incomplete conclusions or taking a particular subject too far. As human beings, we tend to be either too much one way or the other depending on the subject so when we come to studying God’s Word, a mindset of trying to find the balance through the guiding hand of God’s Spirit is a must so for this aspect of our Easy Bible Guide, I’ve prepared a short article with a link to one of those subjects which can cause confusion.
.
Balance is everything when it comes to drawing solid conclusions from study of the scriptures and is essential to every subject we encounter so that we may avoid serious error and extreme teachings. Scripture makes it clear, that a just weight is a delight and is well approved of by God so when we take a subject of interest from the Word, balance should always be our mindset, as attaining that balance not only benefits our own soul but benefits those who hear us teach. As an example, I’ve chosen a subject from our ‘Questions Answered’ series of articles on the much talked about subject of ‘Christians and Alcohol’ to hopefully show you that most aspects of God’s Word aren’t just a simple ‘yes or no’ but a full spectrum of teaching on many different levels.

Hopefully it can be seen, that when it comes to the subject of alcohol, it’s not just a simple yes or no but a full, balanced view of what the scriptures actually tells us showing us clearly the mind of God on the subject. In the subject of alcohol, we can see from God’s Word that a simple ‘yes we can all drink as Christians’ and a ‘no we can’t’ would both be inaccurate and an unbalanced teaching of God’s Word presenting the danger of disunity, discord and if left unchecked, extreme forms of beliefs. This kind of unbalance produces the confusion however, when we study a subject fully and by the revelations of the Holy Spirit, we can arrive at a doctrine which is well pleasing to God and good for our soul.
