Questions Answered

.

This is a question which was very kindly suggested I answer on our Website from one of our friends on the Anoox Network. We’ve been continuing to build the Questions Answered Feature on this Blog Page and I think it’s always good to ask opinions and views about what questions young Christians would ask, so this one I think is a good one.

.

The Holy Spirit himself is the third member of what Christians refer to as ‘The Trinity’, our Lord Eternally existing in the three persons – God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit.  It’s an element of the reality of God which some struggle to take on board which is absolutely fair, so it deserves as clear an answer as possible. Firstly a little illustration of the three members of the Godhead in one place at one time and this took place at a very well-known moment, the day Jesus himself was baptised.  The Word tells us that God spoke, that Jesus got baptised and the Holy Spirit descended upon him like a dove.  A very well-known

moment but this event is one of the best pictures to put forward as an example of the Trinity.

.

It’s the 3 in 1 which can become a little bit more confusing however hopefully the following will give you a clear example. When we look at ourselves as human beings we’re not just one entity but three, we have our spirit, our soul and our body, three distinct elements working in harmony (most of the time) but to carry out a function.  This is the same as the God we serve, three distinct individuals working in perfect harmony (all of the time) but with three functions in this age.  God is the Father in Heaven with the purpose of just being God (I am what I am), the Son at this point in time stands at the right side of the Father speaking on our behalf and the Holy Spirit, well if you’re a believer, then he dwells in your heart.

.

Jesus was very clear about the function of the Holy Spirit, he said that he would leave but the Holy Spirit would come and if he did, then he’d enter a believer’s heart to act as their comforter but with so much more. When the Spirit enters your life, his function is to help you, give you the strength and the wisdom to live, he’ll impress things upon you – dreams, visions, impressions, he’ll give you a sense of his presence when you feel alone or down and he will guide you into all things. That’s for the believer however for the unbeliever, well he’s there to do one thing, to convict the world of sin and draw people to Jesus because he is fully God.

.

The last aspect I’d say about the Holy Spirit is that above all, he’d want you to focus on God the Father and Jesus Christ, Jesus said that the Holy Spirit would not speak of himself but glorify the Father and the Son so it’s important we place him in the correct light in our lives but friend he’s there, all the time, if you believe in Jesus Christ you won’t get rid of him, he will love you and be with you through all of life’s joys and dark valleys. He won’t walk away because he didn’t like what you said, he won’t throw in the towel on you and he will most certainly NEVER manipulate you, force you, hurt you or humiliate you. He is fully God dwelling within you.

.

God bless and please don’t hesitate to leave any questions at the bottom of this article.
