I’ve been saved for some time and I’m a Christian who fully believes in the healing power of God, but I still struggle a bit with the fact that I need to take medication for physical problem, can you offer some advice?
.
Pastor Steven 2013, Medication and Ailments – This is a really good question and one which needs to have a clear answer because I don’t know about you, but I’ve heard this discussion many times in Christian circles and it can actually get quite heated.  Many have their opinions and views about whether we should or shouldn’t with certain types of medication however, you actually find that the answer is really quite simple when you look at the subject in any great depth. This also gives me a great opportunity to share with our visitors, friends and customers of this website, my own personal testimony of this question so l hope it helps.

I’m a Christian who had been serious ill from a disease called Ulcerative Colitis in the past requiring multiple surgeries and even now, I still feel the physical affects including having a colostomy bag now for the rest of my life. I endure a constant discomfort and pain and need to

take various forms of pain relief, supplements (including a nicotine supplement) to help the Colitis in my hip joints and take tablets to alleviate the nerve damage in my back. Despite these limitations though I’m just like anyone else, I work a full time job, spend a lot of time with my wife and children and enjoy DIY, working on the car and running around on my motorbike.  In my Church side of life, I’ve wrote Christian books, created this website, I’ve Pastored in my local church, taken the youth and young adults all over Scotland, held Christian events and preached from the pulpit.

.
People tend to be quite surprised about what I’m capable of despite my limitations however, it surprises them even more to learn that I’ve laid hands on others and seen them healed and called upon the Elders of our Church to heal my wife on three occasions, once from a potentially life threatening disease.  I think some just struggle to comprehend why it’s possible, that I could be used by God to heal another when I’ve got these issues of my own.
.
Believe me, I’ve studied every instance in the New Testament from the original texts from every account of the healings of Christ, Paul and Peter, I’ve studied Paul’s Thorn in the flesh and Timothy’s stomach issues and you know what, you find that in essence we’re are just all so different, some of us are blessed with good health and others struggle, some get spectacularly healed by God and others have their issues to contend with.  This is further confirmed when you look at great men of God in public positions, both past and present, like Spurgeon and Wigglesworth and even present men like Creflo Dollar and Steve Hill, you see that even these men have their physical issues to contend with and for us, it’s actually a great encouragement.
.
If you do want the greatest example to answer the question about taking medication for ailments then the great teaching is found, through one of the greatest men of the New Testament early church called Timothy, a young man who was Paul the Apostle’s own apprentice, who ended up becoming the Overseer of one the largest group of churches, in an area called Ephesus. He was well spoken of by his own church, called of God to serve with Paul, a man of great faith and of might in the scriptures however, Timothy had his issues.  Paul described them as being stomach problems and ‘often infirmities (Greek – Bodily sickness)’ for which Paul allowed and prescribed, a little wine to ease his sufferings and help his stomach.
.
So you couldn’t really ask and I couldn’t offer, a greater example of the use, at times of course, of worldly remedies in the scriptures, so don’t worry if this is your lot for now. My advice would be to talk to your Pastor/Overseer or Christian friends to pray to the Lord further about your issues however, I hope the above testimony of myself, the encouragement to look on well known and respected Christians in the Body of Christ and the example of Timothy, has eased any concerns you might have about the subject.  God bless…….
