Newsletter – Children’s Home
.
Most of our regular readers, friends and visitors will know that Sharon and I have had a deep desire to open a Christian Children’s Home in our area and it’s a vision we’ve had for quite some time now. The home is quite simply what the proceeds of our Online Bookshop will ultimately go to as we build and move forward, so I thought I’d share a little about the vision in our July Newsletter.
.
A few years back, we were given the honour and the responsibility to oversee the youth and young adult groups in our church and I have to say at that point, it was some of the best years of our Christian lives so far. We’ve no doubt that the youth blessed us far more I think than we ever-blessed them as we met and had fellowship in our Sunday Youth Service, Youth Cafe outreach, DVD nights, youth events as well as leading some to the Lord and having them baptised in our assembly. It was a period where it seemed

the Lord blessed every move we made as a group and we had tremendous successes and I’m so glad for each one of them, that they encountered the Lord Jesus Christ on a personal level. Inevitably though, there were a few times of difficult and challenging situations some of which, had great results and others, where I personally felt we could have done more and the latter became the reason for the vision of a Christian Children’s Home in our area. There are many instances which have added weight to our desire but one in particular, really showed just how much of a need this vision is for our city and indeed for any city. We had one girl who gave her life to Christ and began attending our youth church. She was an amazing wee teenager and so open about her family history, issues she was facing and the struggles that she had personally, which she shared with us and the group as a whole, it was a real blessing. Before long, she was up sharing her testimony at our various youth outreaches despite her fears and we were just so proud of her for her courage and obviously she grew in confidence as she walked.

.
One evening after our youth service, the youth were all playing and chatting in the car park waiting for their parents to either come out of their meeting or pick them up and as I stood, I noticed a little group discussing something so I went over. As it turned out, this girl (who was under 16 at the time) had nowhere to sleep that night with her separate mother and father having no room and her grandparents refusing that particular night, I couldn’t believe what I was hearing. As it turned out this was a regular thing and given her issues and history, it was clear these relationships were all strained and that evening was just one of those things but thankfully, the Lord provided by giving her a place to sleep for the night with one of her friend’s parents giving her a bed for the night, but the night left us very troubled indeed. My own inward reaction was a bit of male-bravado I’m afraid in that I said to the

Lord, “well if nobody wants her, we’ll have her!” but I knew we neither had the room or the necessary legal requirements due to her age and this was the point where our attention turned to the thoughts of a Christian Children’s Home for our area.

.
We were at the time housing full-time one of our youth and already maxed out with spare room and finances so in many respects we’d already begun but as always we lacked the time or the resources to do much more than we were doing, so it was then we decided that most if not all, proceeds from our website would go toward this vision. We already have a house in mind called Winchester House which is a former nursing home and now a local government office for social care for children and it is a fantastic building, very practical and perfect for our needs, so this is the house we’re gunning for. As it always seems to be the way with God, we have absolutely nowhere near the funds we need despite spending heavy hours building our website however, we feel confident to continue in faith believing God to provide for this very important cause.
.
So this article has hopefully been an update for those who know as well as some information on this vision for our new visitors, friends and customers, we thank you for the funds so far and we hope you will fire a few prayers for us as the weeks go on. It’s not easy but I haven’t seen God let us down yet!
.

God bless
